BCD Launches New Back Chair 007

We are pleased to be in a position to finally offer what we believe to be a very high quality Office Back Chair within our ergonomic seating range. Following the launch of our new B2B corporate website http://www.officeposturechairs,co,uk/ this year, we asked our manufacturer to exclusively design and build a high quality back chair for a competitive price that we could list on the new website.  We jointly decided to offer a purpose built back chair incorporating inflatable lumbar & a seat slide, so that the chair would suit a broad range of users within  an average height/weight range.

The back chair was actually launched a couple of weeks ago and we immediately had an order for 27 from a company looking to upgrade their office seating within a tight budget. This was quickly followed by further sales which clearly demonstrated the manufacturer had designed an excellent product.  Having listed the chair on the B2B website we could see no reason why we should not discount its full retail price to below £200.00 and offer as few options as possible.  The client feedback gave us sufficient comfort to also list the chair on our main specialist website http://www.backchairs-direct.co.uk/ as a budget back chair. Essentially the pricing model we have adopted means we are giving away the inflatable lumbar support, the seat slide and an upgrade from standard height adjustable arms to ones with forward/backward sliding armpads.

This chair has opened the door for us into the corporate market at a wholesale pricing level, knowing that it is UK manufactured offering far superior components to cheaper imported ergonomic seating.

Is taking a Tablet for Text Neck the answer ?

Recent studies now show that users of "Tablets" should avoid wherever possible using them on their laps which can cause painful hunching of the neck. Replacing the old faithful DeskTop may have many advantages but it certainly has some more serious disadvantages when it comes to posture issues.

The issues are all too similar to those highlighted in our recent Text Neck blog and recent studies by the Harvard School of Public Health clearly demonstrate this fact. We are often called to offices to carry out seating and/or desking assessments, but when it comes to muscoskeletal disorders, especially of the upper limbs, the source may not be in the office, but actually at home using SmartPhones or Tablets.

Given that very rarely are children taught how to sit correctly there is probably little hope that manufacturers will issue a posture guidlines to use the products safely.

Text Neck

Your Smartphone and your upper limb problems.

You may not realise but when you are using your smartphone for texting, emailing or surfing you tend to lean forwards into a position that can cause or aggravate Neck, Shoulder and Back problems. You will be straining your muscles in those areas to accommodate this “smartphone” position. In the U.S. they call this the Cell Phone “text neck” as so many students are suffering from constant smartphone use.

Did you know that the average weight of a head is 10 lbs (4.5 kgs) and that for every 1” you lean it forwards the strain on your neck increases 10 fold.

The benefit for a forward tilting seat

Tilting Chairs

For generations, restless school children have been ordered to stop swinging on their chairs, but scientific evidence now suggests that what Sir and Miss dismissed as an annoying habit might have lifelong benefits. The action of tilting your chair forwards puts the body into a naturally good posture and prevents slumping.
With a growing number of children complaining of back pain it might be the quickest and cheapest remedy. The average school life means a youngster spends up to 10,000 hours at a desk. As many as 60 percent have admitted to some back problems and almost ten percent end up with serious back pain

The charity BackCare is lobbying ministers to make sure money spent on school furniture goes towards “back friendly chairs”. The charity believes teachers are now realising that a straight back can improve concentration, performance and behaviour. It wants the ‘ubiquitous’ plastic bucket chair to be replaced with adjustable, forwarding tilting chairs and angles desks, which were popular in Victorian times.
